
Renowned Orff-Schulwerk specialist, music educator Brian Burnett will come to NIU to share with music teachers in the Northern Illinois area a practical assessment strategy to help students develop music skills. In this workshop, participants will be engaged in music and movement lessons actively. Through these activities, participants will be introduced to several important assessment tools, such as rubric design, grading criteria, and self evaluation that help students reflect on their learning. This workshop is sponsored by Great Chicago Orff-Schulwerk Chapter, Fox Valley Orff-Schulwerk Chapter, and the NIU Music School and is open to everyone.

About the Clinician:
Brian Burnett teaches elemental music, K-6 in the Rossford Schools near Toledo, Ohio. His Master’s thesis was titled Creativity in the General Music Class. In that research he discovered the Orff approach to music education.
Burnett now teaches professional development courses and assessment workshops across the country. His work has been published in Macmillan/McGraw-Hill’s Share the Music and Spotlight On Music. Brian served as a National Conference Chair for the 2009 American Orff-Schulwerk Association Professional Development Conference in Milwaukee and continues to support the conference committee.
